According to Muluki Dewani Sanghita 2074, although every person is free to marry under the rule of law, couples from sexual and gender minority communities could not get legal recognition of marriage.
According to this provision, Pinki Gurung, the president of Neelheera Samaj, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the legalization of same-sex marriage last May.
While hearing the said writ, on June 12, the single bench of Supreme Court Justice Til Prasad Shrestha issued an interim order to register the marriage of the sexual and gender minority couple.
