NEWS UPDATE
Former Home Minister and Congress central member Balkrishna Khand, who was imprisoned in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees, has been honoured by the Nepali Congress Lumbini Province.
Lumbini Province Working Committee honoured Khand on Saturday.
Since Khand is in prison, the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba handed over the certificate to Khan's brother Rupandehi Congress president Ramkrishna Khan.
The police arrested him from his residence on Asar-2 on the charge that he was involved in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees.
On Bhaisakh 27, 16 people, including Khand, were sent to prison for preliminary investigation.
Against the order of the District Court, the legal professionals of the mine approached the Patan High Court.
The Patan High Court gave an order in the case last Friday.
Judges Prakash Kharel and Janak Pandey were divided on whether to keep Khan in custody or release him on bail.
Due to the difference of opinion, the single bench will decide on whether to keep him in custody or release him on bail.
An appearance will be scheduled for that next week.
Even though Khand has been charged, Congress has not suspended him as a central member.
Leaders from other parties in the Congress organization also demanded that he should be suspended in the meeting of the Congress Central Committee.
But the establishment party was in the majority and the Congress was left to suspend the mining.
