NEWS UPDATE
A hearing is being held today (Tuesday) on the petition filed against the government's decision to close Tiktok.
The government had banned Tiktok for disturbing social harmony.
Lawyers filed a petition in the Supreme Court claiming that the government's decision to close TikTok is against the right to freedom of expression and communication guaranteed by the constitution.
Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma claimed that it is in the constitution and existing laws that social harmony cannot be disturbed in the country and Tiktok was closed on that basis.
On Monday, the Ministry of Communications submitted a reply to the Supreme Court stating that Tiktok cannot be regulated and that it should be banned.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has been flexible about lifting the ban on TikTok.
